What is Pickleball?

Pickleball is a paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn and it can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. Once an over 55+ game for adults, it’s now professionally dominated by the 20-30 crowd. Today the fastest growing segment for pickleball is those ages 25-50, but it’s still a very popular game for seniors.

There are over 15,000 indoor and outdoor courts and over 2.5 million players in the United States; and at least one location in all 50 states. While the sport has become more competitive through the years, many players enjoy the social aspects of the game and the ability to stay active in their own towns and communities.  Source: USAPA.org

Ages 18 - 50: Fastest Growing Segment

Pickleball used to be for those 55+ or under 16 playing in gym classes but that’s changed dramatically. Today’s Pro circuit is a lot of young tennis players who made the conversion to pickleball. Standing so close to the net, there’s more action and rapid, high-energy play. Having good reflexes and mobility makes it perfect for the 25 to 50 year old person to bring the game to a higher level. This segment is the fastest growing age group for pickleball and that trend is supposed to increase further in future.

Pickleball offer exercise, a challenge and fun – plus, you do not need to find a friend or three to play pickleball, there is always someone waiting at the court to play.  For those who want to play against others of the same level, then CTPA is the answer. Play one game as quickly as 10-15 minutes or stay at the courts for hours playing many games against many excellent players of your own level.

Do you have good mobility and good paddle skills from tennis, racquetball, squash, table tennis or other racquet sports?  Then sign up for our CTPA Quick-Start Pickleball Clinic.  After the clinics, people with these skills should play as an advanced beginner, or lower intermediate level of pickleball.
